Ariel Sebastian Mercado, PhD

With more than 20 years of experience in teaching languages for specific purposes, Ariel Sebastian Mercado has been a research collaborator and the Anglais Santé content reviewer since 2025. He served as coordinator and professor of the French for health sciences and social work courses at the French Language Centre of McGill University from 2020 to 2024, and he currently teaches French language at John Abbott College.

He holds a B. A. in French as a second language from Université Laval (Quebec City), a master’s in teaching Spanish as a foreign language from Universidad Antonio de Nebrija, a Diploma of Advanced Studies from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and a Doctorate in Linguistics from Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio (UAX) in Madrid, Spain.

From 2005 to 2009, he actively contributed to the development and implementation of several courses at UAX, including English for Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry and Physiotherapy. In addition, he collaborated with the master’s program of Teaching Spanish as a second language at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia, where he was responsible for the online module on medical Spanish.

His research interests include languages for specific purposes, discourse analysis and generative AI in foreign language education.
