Building French Language Proficiency for Nursing Students

Support students in French language development through exercises in small groups and one-on-one sessions.

--Within the context of French A and French B for Nurses courses, evaluate Nursing students based on French proficiency levels and form small groups of students based on language level. All enrolled students will be placed in a group (approximately 25 students per course).

--Provide a minimum of 12 weekly language labs each semester (Fall 2024, Winter 2025) to each group of students. Labs are offered by a Nursing teacher with fluency in French and/or a French teacher and focus on professional terminology and conversational skills needed in clinical settings.

--Provide one-one-one or small group support to students who are preparing for and/or working towards completing a clinical placement in francophone and bilingual hospital settings. Support can include translation of theory and/or lab content or activities into French, such as how to complete a head-to-toe assessment in French, or debriefing with students who are currently completing clinical placements in francophone settings.
