Building French Language Proficiency for Nursing Students

This project continues the 2021–2023 initiative, providing targeted French language support to first-year nursing students in semesters 1 and 2.

Its goal is to prepare students for clinical placements in Quebec and for work in francophone healthcare settings after graduation.

The project offers program-specific language activities through French A and French B courses, as well as additional tutorials. French teachers adapt course materials to the nursing curriculum and oversee fixed lab groups where students practice using French in realistic clinical contexts. These activities help students develop the professional vocabulary and communication skills needed for patient care and collaboration in francophone healthcare institutions.

By combining in-class support with guided practice, the project equips students with the confidence and linguistic competence necessary to succeed academically and professionally in the Outaouais region.
