English Training Courses

Offer free language courses to eligible health and social services professionals and staff

Anglais Santé

Dialogue McGill is financially supporting a language training provider to develop and offer an English language training program, Anglais Santé, tailored to health and social services professionals and intake staff in Quebec.

Health and social services institutions can receive funding that allows eligible professionals and staff to increase their language proficiency by attending free English classes and conversation groups.

How it works

    • Recommended investment: 2.4 hours/week, for 10 weeks

  2. Conversation course (virtual face-to-face) | 16 hours total

  • Fixed weekly schedule

  • Personalized pedagogical support from a faculty lecturer

  • Recommended investment: 2 hours/week, for 8 weeks

Language proficiency test

A language proficiency test is given to determine the current English-language skills of the program’s candidates.

  • Elementary (1), (2) and (3);

  • Intermediate (1), (2) and (3);

  • Advanced (1) and (2).

Request for Funding

Health and social services institutions need to submit a proposal to Dialogue McGill to request the funding they need in order for their eligible personnel to take the courses for free. If an institution is approved for funding, they are responsible for:

  • promoting the courses internally;

  • collecting the names of employees who are in contact with English-speaking clientele and who would like to develop their language skills;

  • ensuring that the eligible employees complete the placement tests;

  • registering the employees as per calendar provided by the language training provider.

This proposal is submitted at the beginning of each funding phase. Contact langue.dialoguemcgill@mcgill.ca for more information.

Eligibility

Professionals and intake staff who provide direct services to English-speaking patients in their workplace and who received pre-approval from their supervisor and institution respondent to enroll in the course.

Three broad categories of employees are eligible:

Intake Personnel

Health Personnel

Psychosocial Personnel

Recruitment and Selection

Health and Social Services institutions are responsible for the recruitment and selection of eligible participants to enroll in the Anglais Santé Program based on a Dialogue McGill pre-approved annual budget.

Need Additional Funding?

Currently participating institutions who have several requests for enrollments in language training courses, can submit a proposal requesting additional Dialogue McGill funding.

Other Language Activities

Language activities for health and social services professionals and intake staff are also provided by Dialogue McGill’s partners. These activities include conversation clubs, lunch conversations, and one-to-one conversation sessions. These language-based activities allow professionals and students to practice speaking in an informal, relaxed environment.
